SMOOTH AWAY REVIEW

I am sure you all have seen the infomercial on tv for this product, I know I have about 50 times. Well today I am going to tell you all what I think of this product. I recently was chosen through FuelMyBlog if I would like to test any products. I selected yes, that I would. About a month later I rec'd an email that I was chosen to do a review of Smooth Away. After seeing all the commercials on tv about this product I was really excited. I was going to get to see if this "really works" without having to spend any money to find out, great right? Before I start this review I would like you all to know that this is a completely unbiased review - if I give this product a good review it is because I really liked it, not because I tried the product for free. With that said, on to the review.

My testing package came with all you see below:

The kit comes with:
  • 1 Large Paddle
  • 1 Small Paddle
  • 4 Micro-crystalline replacement pads for each
  • 1 Carrying Case

The large pads are recommended that you use them for legs and arms and the small pads are to be used for your face, fingers and toes.

This product retails for $9.99 and is available at CVS, Rite Aid, Sally Beauty, Walgreens, Walmart, and other fine retailers.

My kit also came with Hair Inhibitor Moisturizer. The information I have on this product says that it contains active ingredients that are shown to reduce the amount of hair re-growth and weaken its quality. The natural active extract, Telocapil, is derived from the Myrica cerifera L. plant and know to day by its elements, Butylene Glycol, Water and Dihydromyricetin.
This product retails for $7.99 and it available at CVS, Rite Aid, Sally Beauty, Walgreens, Walmart, and other fine retailers.

I received this product about a week ago, and for the last week I have been letting my leg hair grow out. After a weeks worth of growth it was long enough to give it a go. I used this product in the living room while watching tv. I used the large paddle and the large pad. The pads come like a big sticker, you peel the backing off of the pad and stick it to the paddle. It says go in a clockwise motion and do three circles, then do three circles in a counter clockwise motion. I had to do this several times to get a clear area. Once I got the hang of it, which didn't take long, I was really swirling that that pink paddle over my leg. After about 5 minutes of this, I felt my legs and they were very smooth, however upon closer inspection I could still see some long hairs. These little "soft" hairs were still there. When using this product you really need to use both touch and sight to make sure you get all the hair, because while you legs may feel smooth you could have missed some of the hair like I did. I used the product another 3-4 minutes on that leg just to make sure I had removed all the hair. (Please note I used this product from the knee down). Next I moved on to the next leg. After using the paddle for about 2 minutes I just didn't seem to be removing the same amount of hair. I figured I had used up the first pad, so I removed it and put a fresh one on. I proceeded the same as the first leg. It says while using this product your skin will appear white or gray, that is from the exfoliating that you are doing as well as removing your hair. My legs were definitely white, lol! The last step you do is apply the hair growth inhibitor lotion.
What I liked:
  • I was able to use this in the living room while watching tv, no water required.
  • How easy it was to use.
  • The smell of the lotion was very nice. A coconut scent, which is one of my favorite smells.
  • How smooth my legs felt when I was finished.
  • The price seems pretty affordable, an amount I would spend for something like this.
What I didn't like:
  • The large pad lasting enough to only do one leg, from the knee down.
  • My hand was a little tired by the time I was getting done with the second leg.
I would definitely use this product again, but I am not ready to throw out my razors! I think this is a good product to have along with razors. I could see using this in the summer time for a quick shave before hitting the pool, without having to jump in the shower first. I can easily say that I would recommend this product for you ladies.

Now, if anyone has tried this product I would really love to hear what you think of it.
Have you seen the commercials for this?
Do any of you all think you might try this out?
And lastly, what did you think of my product review skills? Anything I left out that you would like to know about? Please let me know gals, I look forward to reading your comments :)

I haven't seen the commercials. I remember I used a similar product when I was younger and wow did it hurt! After a few disastrous results with other hair removal products (Nair!!! UGH!) I'm reluctant use anything else but a razor. (And way too cheap to wax, lol)

Nice review, Brooke. :-)

I haven't heard of this before...are the pads scratchy or soft? Do they basically just pull the hair out (albeit gently while doing circles)?

It seems like I always miss hairs when I try stuff like this...shaving is the only thing that really works 100% for me (or waxing, but *wow* that hurts). I like the convenience factor, but it seems like a lot of work.

Interesting though - thanks for sharing!

Being of the hirsute variety of females BLECH!! i read your review with great interest. From your description i'd agree with your assesment of it's pros and cons.

Brooke, I enjoyed your review very much, it was informative and very sincere please keep reviewing new products.

THE ASIAN GIRL - I'm surprised you haven't seen these commericals. This was very painless.

JAMIE - Thank you! I didn't know if I had too much info or not enough :) The pads are soft, it is like a really really fine sand paper, not scratchy at all. I believe that is just kind of "snads" the hair off your legs. This would be great for a "quick shave" if needed. Very Painless.

OLGA - Thank you very much. Hopefully I will be selected again to review another product! It's been pretty fun! I mean, what's not fun about getting a product for free and getting to try it out?!

I have seen the infomercials on these and they reminded me of something I used when I was younger that hurt a lot, like Asian Girl, and I got red bumps everywhere.
I have tried waxing and I get the same result, but HUGE red bumps. I have VERY coarse, dark hair on my legs so maybe this would be good for me? What do you think?
Very good review, Brooke! Just enough detail.

NESSA - Oh good! SOmeone else that has seen this. I was starting to get worried.

Yes, I think this could work for your hair. My boyfriend even tried this out on his arm hair, it worked for him just great. I had no pain using this at all, but I am sure if you kept rubbing in the same spot over and over it would cause some pain. Plus, I think for $10 bucks (I saw these at walgreens yesterday) it is handy for a quick shave. Like in the spring, I might change my mind and wear shorts or a skirt, but didn't shave my legs, this would be realy handy for a quick "shave". I think it is worth a try anyway.

You gotta let us know how long this keeps your legs smooth, too.
For me, with shaving, it's maybe 2 days, so if it's longer than that I will def go for it!

Good review Brooke. I've seen the infomercials before. I have something like this. Basically your just sanding off your hair. I wonder if you can buy the very fine grit sandpaper at a home depot and do the same thing? It does do a good job of making your legs super soft.

NESSA - I think this will only last the same amount of time as shaving since it is just basically getting rid of the hair above the skin. As a matter of fact I just felt my legs and it has been a day and I can feel some stubles.

LUCY - Thank you. I wonder about the sand paper too! I can just see telling your bf to run to home depot and get you sandpaper so you can sand the hair off your legs! lmao

Hi! Would you say this product would make ingrown hairs like normal razors for curly-haired people? Also, can it irritate skin?

Brooke said...

DEVANY - I would say no about the ingrown hairs. I think it would only iritate the skin if you kept rubbing in one spot to long, and I think it would hurt if you did so you would stop before you irritated your skin too much. It really is pretty handy if you need a quick "shave" and dont have access to water and the like.

Thanks for the question, I hope this helps.
