FOIL FAIL

I ordered these foils a while ago and finally decided to use them. I thought they would make perfect New Years Eve nails.

Everything was going good until I applied the special top coat. I specifically paid for the top coat they claim you need with these foils so that there wouldn't be any problems. . . and there were problems. The top coat caused the foils to shrink, wrinkle and cloud!!! After a few nails, I switched top coats, Seche did the same thing.

HELP
I need help!!
  • Why did this happen???
  • What can I do or use so that this won't happen again?
  • Can I wear these without top coat and have the foils stay on my nails for at least a day?

Below you will see what the original foil looked like before the top coat wrecked it!

I know they don't look like what they should, but they still look awesome!

Can't wait to hear when everyone says, I've been wanting to try foils for a long time!

I've never had trouble with the special topcoat so I have no idea what happened. Are you sure you got the right topcoat?

I can't wait to find out what went wrong. I've been dying to try nail foils, as soon as I can find some...

Oh man, total sad panda moment! It would be totes awesome if it looked all holo and crazy like in the bottle, but...if it helps any...it still looks bitchin' all crinkled.

Check the top coat, they had to have sent the wrong one. You do need top coat or they will get torn up very fast. I've always used the top coat made for foil and never had issues.

Wish I could help you but have no idea how foils work :/ but the one in the bottle sure looks great and hope that you get it to work so we can see some pictures of it :D

I was read this on transdesign: "Please note: After applied Foil Sealer (Top Coat) The foil design will look antique (wrinkle)."

I don't know how it's supposed to look, but this looks just like crinkly foil to me. I'm imagining it w/glitter on it! COOL!

Hmm, not sure why it's doing that. I tried them once and placed the wrong side up! I would like to see what a Konad would look like over it though!

Unless you speak french, you won't understand what she's saying, but there english subtitles and I can "get the idea"...see if the top coat she shows is similar to what you have? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmNobN0ghdk

I happen to like the look. It looks like crinkled aluminum foil. I like that look. It's so shiny and gorgeous. I've never used foils so I can't help with your problem. I just know what I like.

Hi,

I just found your blog yesterday. I LOVE the way this crinkly foil looks!!! Can you please tell me what brand this is, if it's a regular polish or if it's a decal-like application, etc.?
Thanks!!
Teresa

Oh I just had another brain fart!
When you applied the primer, did you wait until it got completely clear before you put on the foil?

If everything looked OK until you put the topcoat on, then it must be topcoat. And it's NO good. :/

I am going to be making my foil attempt soon - I hope I got the good kind of topcoat! Although even the fail looks cool ... I know how frustrating it is when it's not what you envisioned.

I saw a video on youtube..can't remember which one...the lady put on some glue then applied the foil and she said she had to wait at least 15 mins for it to dry completely before applying the top coat. Your foil is beautiful pls do tell where you purchased it :D
