*******UPDATE - Please participate in the poll I have at the top of the page, telling me what you think of this style of nail art.
Look at these cool nails! Nail art in Japan is crazy!! They have taken nail art to a whole different level! I hope it starts spilling over here soon, because I totally LOVE these nails. They have some of the cutest little appliques that I just can't seem to find. From what I could tell from the website that I got these pics from, these are pre-made sets that you pick from and then just apply them to your nails. The website is in Japanese, so of course I wasn't exactly for sure how these work. To me these are little pieces of art work that you wear on your nails.
They even have some for toe nails, lol!I believe that some of the appliques are hand made, as in the picture above. The two bows and hearts look as though they were made from acrylic. I would love to learn how to do stuff like that. These nails are right up my alley!
I would love to hear from you all! What do you think of nail art like this? Is it for you? Do you like it, just not on you? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Everyone has opinions and I would love to hear yours.
ALSO - If anyone reading this knows more about this style of nail art I would LOVE to hear what you know. I am trying to find out what I can, but most is in Japanese. Please either send me an email or leave the info in the comments section, I check both regularly.

i love the gem stones of different sizes over the glitter. i saw a similar nail in black with matching black gems... hotness!
YUMMY411 - I love that too. There is just something so unique about this style that just really appeals to me.
Amazing work, some styles i liked, others are a bit too extreme for me
but you've got to admire the artistry of it.
I know that the company Nfu-oh has a blog in english where they talk about this kind of nail art, and show their product line.

OLGA - I agree with you. Some are so over the top, but to me it is kind of like fashion. You know how some styles they send down the runway aren't really for wearing, they are to show art. That is kind of what I think when I see some of these styles of nails.
HONEYHONEYNY - Thanks so much! I really appreciate the info. Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment!
I LOVE the ones with the flowers and I also love the ones that look like embellished french manicures. Very cool!!
KATEE - Me too! I'm so glad to hear that you guys like this!
I'm in Japan and see a lot of these, mostly on younger girls. Gel is most popular, but there are a lot of acrylics too.
Rhinestones are always in fashion, but lately, "sweets nails" are popular- plastic cookies, whipped cream, candy, etc. are attached to nails. Sometimes they are really giant, I don't know how the people wearing them can do anything.
Here's a couple links to some nail salons in Tokyo with clickable photo galleries:

Nails are expensive here, with the "All The Sculpture + Jewels You Want" costing about $125 US. Regular French sets are about $65 US. A bottle of OPI is $20 US. That's why I had to start mixing my own polishes!
NEVERTOOMUCHGLITTER - Thank you so much for this information and the links! Wow, $125, I was really curious to know how much that it cost. At $20 a bottle for OPI, I would mix my own colors too! I just got an empty bottle, I am going to attemp to frankien something very soon, you inspired me with all the Frankens you have on your site!
I have a couple posts on 3D acrylic nail art.

It's not something I do often because the smell of acrylic liquid really bothers my SO. If you have any questions about what supplies you'll need to get started feel free to ask me. :)
I found this looking for inspiration on doing my nails tonight XD I always do my nails in Japanese style so if you have any questions please feel free to ask :)
VIOLET - Hi, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment. I have checked out your site, and it looks great :)
Beautiful designs. Never thought nails could look so beautiful.. the work of it is surely worth a mention.
Nail Art
So do all of these kinds of nail designs have to be, erm, fake? I don't really know exactly how to describe the category of acrylics, gels, etc., but anyways, so can these sort of designs actually be applied directly on the nail?
The pink french mani with the bows reminds me of the Japanese lolita brand Baby the Stars Shine Bright. I would love to see the website. I took Japanese for a bit, so if I don't understand it (and I inevitably won't) I can ask my teacher to tell me how they do the nails.
