What a strange color this is. Goes from looking brown to gray to having a slight purple and a slight mauve color.

CHEAP, DRUGSTORE BRAND SWATCHES - THE PINKS

Last night I was in a swatching mood so I decided to pull down a few boxes of nail polish and pick some out to swatch. You might remember that I recently started keeping my nail polish by color, so I pulled down PINK, GREEN and BLUE boxes to pick from. I didn't even realize until after I picked out several bottles that the majority of what I had was cheaper drug store brands. After swatching them, I really wanted to stress to you all just how great some of these brands really are. Most of the ones I am showing you cost me $2 or less for each bottle!! So next time you are at your local dollar store or drug store, don't just pass by those cheap brands. Get one and give it a try, you just might be surprised that really nice nail polish doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.

This first post will highlight the PINK nail polishes I picked out.

BIANCA, SCANDAL, BEAUTIFUL GIRL

Sinful Colors usually gets ripped about being streaky and thin. And that is true for some polishes (but I think that goes for all brands too), but not all of Sinful Color's polishes streaky. I used three coats for each, which is what I consider normal.

Sinful Colors retail for $1.99 at Walgreens.

BIANCA

Just to jazz it up a little bit, I used LOVE MY NAILS in Dazzling.Love My Nails I believe are $1.97 and can be found at Walmart.

(As a side note, their tag line of "For that deep, wet look" has to be some MALE marketing there.)

SCANDAL

For this one, I chose to use a Nabi - Milky Glitter. I purchased my Nabi's from a flea market in Las Vegas for $1.00 each. I have really been pretty impressed with Nabi brand and they have some really nice, unique colors as well as a ton of glitters to choose from. This particular glitter polish I used was really easy to apply. I didn't have any problems that cheaper glitters sometimes have of not applying well. I did not have to fish the glitter out or apply it any different way for this to show up on my nail. Very nice Nabi, very nice. Milky Glitter has two types of glitter in it, THREE different sized round glitter and small bar glitter.

BEAUTIFUL GIRL

To top this one off I picked a Misa. Now this isn't a cheap, drug store brand, but like I said, MOST of the ones I picked out were. Misa is a really nice brand of polish. Every time I use one, I want to get more of them. Not only do I just ADORE the bottle shape, the polish is really, really nice. I used Candy Girl to top this off. I loved how girly this was.

Stay tuned for my GREEN and BLUE posts coming up!

DOES YOUR EMAIL NOT WORK???

OPEN LETTER TO NAIL POLISH COMPANIES:

I am fed up to here (reaching as far above my head as I can!) with companies that don't answer their emails. And by companies, I mean NAIL POLISH companies. . . . . . and by nail polish companies I mean - SINFUL COLORS, PURE ICE, LOVE MY NAILS, CAROLYN NY..... (there is more of ya, so don't be smilin' if I didn't mention your name)

If you have a website up and you clearly have a CONTACT US button with an email address, and I contact you, don't you think I DESERVE a response back? It's the LEAST you could do for someone that PAYS your bills, because really, that's what WE all do when we buy a bottle (or 20) of your product.

I would think that IN THIS ECONOMY (I can't believe I just said that) you would be falling all over yourself to keep your customers happy. Especially when your product is certainly not one of necessity. How hard could it be to take a few minutes and actually respond to someone who took time out of their day and their busy schedule to send you an email? Is YOUR time more precious than MINE?? And I KNOW damn good and well most of ya'll sitting in your office responding and sending your own PERSONAL emails on company time. I know this because I do it too, but I don't neglect my company related emails, and they certainly come before my personal ones.

One would also think that when you get an email and I specifically say that I write a blog and SEVERAL people would be interested in finding out the answer to the question I so thoughtfully took the time to send you, that you would mos. def. want to respond. I don't feel more deserving of an answer because I write a blog, but I do think you would see it as a way to spread good word about your company through the masses, and by masses I mean Nail Polish Freaks, like myself, who read nail polish blogs, who buy nail polish by the dozens, who change their polish daily, who own enough polish to open their own salon, & who also happen to be YOUR customers.

If you don't have time to respond to emails then please TAKE DOWN YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS. What's the point of posting one if you have no desire to respond?? It is a waste of my time, frustrating, and becoming a down right pet peeve to send YOU an email that you know you will never respond to. Save us BOTH the time and take down your email address.
Of course I would LOVE to email you this letter direct, but I think we all know how THAT turns out . . . . . .

Thanks,

Brooke B.

MY "LOVE MY NAILS" COLLECTION

A couple of you all expressed an interest in my Love My Nails brand nail polishes. SO, I thought I would share with you my collection of cute top coats and chunky glitters that I have.

I purchased mine at Wal-Mart and they run 97 cents each. However, I have learned that not all Wal-Marts carry this brand. I did find the dist./maker of this brand. They are called Bari Cosmetics, who are also the dist./makers of Pure Ice, Perfect 10, Nail Fantasies & Bon Bons nail polishes. These are available for sale on their website, but from what I can tell they must be bought in qty's of four (4), which that doesn't help any of us here. I did find some Love My Nails for sale on Ebay, but none were the chunky/glitter top coats.
I put in an email to Bari Cosmetics and they say I should have a response with in 72 hours. My email luck has not been so good here lately (yes, Sinful Colors & Carolyn NY, I'm talking to you!) so I am not holding my breath that I will actually get a response. If I do receive one I will be sure to pass the info obtained on to you all.

FORREST GREEN HOLO FRANKEN

Yes, you read that right! Forrest Green Holo Franken!! That is what I made out of that good for nothin' Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Night Lights. Here is what I used:

I poured half of my bottle of SH Night Lights into an empty bottle, then I poured in a small amount of Nfu Oh #66 (a light, mint green holo), I added some SH - Emerald City (a little bit more than the Nfu Oh) and a small amount of Love My Nails - Black Rage. I added two BB's and shook 'er up. And this is what I got:
Yeah baby! How hot does that color look? I took an insane amount of pictures, I was THAT pleased with myself!! Gaze upon the greatest franken of my life (so far. . . hehehe)

DINKY APPROVES!

DINKY'S BACK APPROVES!

I would once again love you all's help in NAMING THAT FRAKEN! You all do such a wonderful job and give such good names. I had immediately thought of something that had to do with Money. Here are a couple I came up with:
Cold, Hard Cash (a take off from Misas- Dirty Sexy Money)
Money
Cash
Of course your idea's don't have to stay with the money theme, whatever you think is a great name let me know in the comments section. Thanks Ladies!
:::::EDIT:::::
OMG!! I feel really dumb! Here I thought I had some ground breaking holo color, and I was just going back over some of Dr. Frankenpolish's past frankens, and Amanda JUST did a forrest green holo AND I looked at it, loved and complimented her on it! What sorta dork am I? Where has my memory gone? So, I am sorry dear Amanda, it looks as though you got this one before I did! Please take a look at Amanda's wonderful franken on her blog HERE! Her's is called fireworks in the forrest.
All apologies Amanda :)
