MEET MY 94 YR OLD AUNT HELEN
Here is my Great Aunt Helen - she rocks! She is 94 and came all the way from California for a visit. I wish I could express how awesome this lady is. I am just so glad that she is here and that I am getting to spend time with her. I tried explaining to Little how awesome it is that he is getting to know his Great Great Aunt.
I'm planning an outside evening party this Saturday for her, so I have been a little side tracked this week. I do have 5 more Ruby Kisses polishes that I am going to show you though, so look forward to that.
I also wanted to share this epic food fail I had last night. I was attempting to do rainbow cakes. I didn't have blue & purple food coloring on hand, so I had to improvise a bit. I substituted one of the colors for black, so the black parts you are seeing ARE NOT burned.
This is what it looks like when the oh so carefully prepared cakes don't want to come out of the pan!! Grrrrrr, I was so upset about this.
I did fill the pans a bit too full and cut the over flow parts off, which you will see below:
Those look kinda cool though, right? I glazed these little rounds but have no clue what to do with the other mess of cake.
This pan was the culprit. After reading online today, I see regular no-stick spray doesn't work, which is what I used. I guess I need Baker's Joy and I also think I needed a thicker cake, this one might have have been a little too light. Live and learn I guess :)

I love your Aunt!!! ♥
Try greasing the inside of the pan with Crisco, and then dusting it with flour. It's a bit of a pain to do, but it really works! The cakes will fall right out.
Your aunt sounds great! I hope to be traveling still when I'm her age. :)
Your Great Aunt looks a good bit like my Gran did. I got misty seeing her picture. :)
Save the failed cakes and make cake pops with them. :D Mmm... Cake pops... *goes into sugar shock*
That is sooooo awesome that your great Aunt was able to travel & visit with you!! How cool is that? Very cool!!! Enjoy this special visit with your great Aunt. Hope she & the Chi's enjoy some time together too.
Your great aunt looks great for 94, it is always great when family visits ^_^ I have family in California also.
ICE QUEEN - Great idea on the cake pops!!!! Thank you :)
Rainbow cakes, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!!!
Your cake does look really cool. What does it taste like? It's wonderful the your Aun still gets around by herself. My girlfriend's Mom is 96. She's still really sharp and has slowed down quite a bit. She can still shake it though. She used to dance in speakeasy's when she was very young and underage! Got to know some famous gangasters. She has lots of crazy stories to tell.
For the cake that fell apart - check online for "cake pop" recipes. I think you just crumble the cake, mix it with frosting and some other ingredients, then form balls, dip it in chocolate and stick a stick in it. LOL CAKE POPS! Let me know if you try this. :)
