FIRE STARTER:
To make Fire Starter I used clear nail polish and three colors of glitters.
The colors used: Copper, Gold & dark Magenta.
The glitter used for this came from Michael's Craft store. Since I wasn't counting on showing you all how to make this I don't have an accurate amount of how much of each glitter I used. I just dumped some, about the same amount of each color, into a empty bottle, then added clear nail polish and bb's and shook it all up.
BLACK TOP:
To make Black Top I used two glitters, clear nail polish and black nail polish.
Both of these glitters are Martha Stewart brand and can probably be found at any local craft store. The main color I used for this franken was Onyx, I added that to an empty bottle, then added some clear and just a touch of black nail polish. I used just enough black to tint the clear polish. Then for a little extra twinkle I added a small amount of the hematite glitter, two bb's and shook shook shook. Remember this is supposed to look rough, so don't put any top coat on this one!

ReplyDeleteI used those little packet glitters to make a brown but the color "melted" and I did the red and black together and it looked amazing, until that one melted too. :c(
ReplyDeleteit looks more like a dark purple magenta goo with some glitter than the distinct red and black glitter. and it all settled which was a big pain to mix when you wanted to use it. FAIL
but your look very nich. do the martha stewart ones play nicer in clear?

ReplyDeleteLACQUER LAINE - Hey there girl! My magenta glitter did tint the base a sort of a dark pink/red color, but nothing drastic like what happened with you. My glitter does settle too, but with the bb's and a couple of shakes it mixes right back up again.
As far as the martha stewart ones, as far as tinting the clear, i'm not sure since I added black to the mix. But it doesn't appear as though the color melted off leaving just silver glitter, it still looks pretty black. But since this one is so rough, that could be a challenge. I think MS glitters do come in a finer grade but don't quote me on that :)

Oh, I love them! :) Thanks for the recipes. I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I am brand new to frankening polishes... do you actually use BB's for a BB gun as mixing beads in these?? :) If not, what are they, and what dept can I find them in in Wal-Mart? Thanks so much. LOVE your nails!!!
ReplyDeleteJENNIFER - No question is dumb, we all start somewhere and have to ask questions to know. Yes, the are real BB's like for BB guns. The one I have came in a tube with like 200 BB's or something and is fairly cheap at around 3-5 bucks. Good luck with frankening - it is actually really fun when you create an awesome polish.
